We have been delighted to welcome many guests back as well as new ones in April and May this year from the UK and the world. Some of our visitors come to visit family but others are keen to discover our lovely area. There are so many things to visit and see near the Annexe Yew Tree Cottage!
So many things to see and do. /What can you visit?
The nearest place worth a visit near us is Dyrham Park (see my previous blog post) . The house, the garden and the deer park offer something for everyone and the village of Dyrham is quite pretty too. For people who enjoy walking the Cotswold Way is just nearby!

Fifteen miles from the Annexe, you can visit Bowood House and its fantastic gardens designed by Capability Brown. It is opened every day from 11 am until 6 pm. In May and June, you will be amazed by the rhododendrons and azaleas in the woodland garden! Certainly worth a visit.

On the outskirts of Bath, about 8 miles from our holiday let is Prior Park, an 18th landscape garden with its Palladian Bridge. Further afield, towards Bristol is Tyntesfield, a Victorian Gothic revival house. It has 540 acres of parkland, wood and garden. A lovely place to explore with the family

About 40 minutes drive from Wick, you can visit Stourhead, a 1,072 hectare estate in Wiltshire. The parkland depends very much on water and the lake is magnificent.
What else can you visit?
Other properties and gardens not far from the Annexe are Great Chartfield Manor, Ilford Manor and Peto garden, Newark Park to name a few. You will also enjoy a visit to Court Gardens. A little nearer, a visit to Westonbirt is a must in all seasons but particularly in the Autumn when the trees (especially the acers) are turning every shade of yellow and red.
What about the towns?
Obviously the city of Bath needs to be on your list. Who cannot be charmed by its gorgeous Georgian buildings, the stunning Bath Abbey and Roman Bath, Victoria park, and its lovely little shops.

Bristol is also a lovely city. The suspension bridge stands proudly above the Avon Gorge in Clifton. You will enjoy visiting the SS Great Britain. The old parts of Bristol are very nice too.
What about the villages?
You cannot miss Castle Combe, one of the prettiest villages in the UK. It is so charming! the village of Lacock is beautiful too and the setting for many films.

If you wish, you can wear your hiking boots and wander around the footpaths near the cottage. The countryside around the village of Wick is very nice. You will enjoy walking up the hills, getting acquainted with the Golden Valley in Wick and see the wildlife around the quarry.
To conclude, you can see, there are many things to do and see and I have not mentioned everything! A week is not enough, you will need to come back and back again!
